He was born in Tokyo in 1939. At university he majored in electrical engineering and acoustics, duly graduating at Waseda University in 1964 with a Master of Engineering degree.
Following graduation, he joined JVC’s Audio Lab. and was in charge of developing studio monitor speaker systems, recording equipment and the acoustic design of JVC’s new Studios in Tokyo. He founded Acoustics Design Office (ADO) at JVC in 1977 and started designing recording studios and concert halls, along with colleague Hiroaki (“Bike”) Suzuki. In addition to JVC, he has designed major studios throughout Japan including Warner Music, Onkio Haus, Roland, On Air, West Side, etc.
Meanwhile, in UK in 1985, he established Acoustics Design Group (ADG) with architect John Flynn, Bike Suzuki and producer/engineer Hugh Padgham. From 1984 onwards, he has designed major studios in London, including Abbey Road, Town House, Olympic, Metropolis, Sarm West, and so on. And he widened his field of design activities to Europe as well as to the Middle East and Asia. He has designed more than 250 facilities worldwide.
From 2001 he has been teaching acoustics, as Professor at the Faculty of Environment and Information Sciences at Yokkaichi University.
As a member of the Digital Home Theater Committee at the Japan Audio Society, he is investigating surround sound systems. He is a member of the AES, Acoustic Society of Japan, Institute of Electronics, information and Communication Engineers, The Virtual Reality Society of Japan, and is an advisor to the Japan APRS.

In 2005, he established tuneworx, an independent consultancy providing specialist advice on acoustics, noise and vibration.
Since then he has designed numerous and a wide variety of projects.

He is an adjunct professor teaching room acoustics at Daelim University and is a member of Audio Engineering Society.
